These highly competitive awards support \"some of the most outstanding graduate researchers in computer science across the globe\" (<a href=\"http:\/\/googleresearch.blogspot.co.uk\/2014\/06\/2014-google-phd-fellowships-supporting.html\">Google<\/a>). The SRG is fortunate to have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cl.cam.ac.uk\/~icg27\/\">Ionel Gog<\/a>, a second-year PhD student, receiving\u00c2\u00a0the 2014<strong> Google Europe Fellowship in Distributed Systems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ionel works on distributed data centre infrastructure for \"big data\" processing: his most recent project is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cl.cam.ac.uk\/research\/srg\/netos\/camsas\/circe\/\"><strong>Circe workflow manager<\/strong><\/a>, which dynamically maps high-level declarative workflow descriptions to a range of different data processing\u00c2\u00a0systems -- such as Hadoop, Spark, GraphChi, PowerGraph or Naiad, -- choosing the best system\u00c2\u00a0automatically. Ionel also contributes to\u00c2\u00a0the R2D2 low-latency network interconnect, the Firmament cluster scheduler and the DIOS operating system as part of the SRG's <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cl.cam.ac.uk\/netos\/camsas\/\" target=\"_blank\">CamSaS initiative<\/a> for building a scalable systems software stack.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations, Ionel!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every year, Google award a number of PhD fellowship in Computer Science.
